The Office of the Public Trustee administers estates of deceased and missing persons, looks after the legal and financial interests of minors and assists dependant adults (as defined under the Guardianship and Trusteeship Act) with their legal and financial interests. These functions are assumed by the Office of the Public Trustee in the absence of next-of-kin who are willing and able to act as trustees.
